Companies who create viny lettering each calculate their lettering differently. Please read how we calculate our lettering so you can be sure to order the correct size for your needs.
1. We calculate lettering height based on the Capital "A" of the font you chose, EVEN IF there is no captial "A" in your quote.
2. When deciding on your lettering height, take into consideration any letters dropping below the baseline. Because captial letters do not usually drop below the baseline, the height of letters like j, g, and y, will NOT be included in letter height. Several of the script fonts like Scriptina actually have as much or more letter height below the baseline as above. Please take this into consideration when choosing your letter height.
2. If there are no captial letters in your quote, the lettering height will still be based on the Capital "A".
WHY DO WE MEASURE THE LETTER HEIGHT THIS WAY?
1. We've found that it is easier for the customer to get a mental picture of the size of their quote if we measure the lettering height against an average Capital Letter. We previously, and most vinyl lettering websites do, measure lettering height from the tallest point of the tallest letter to the the lowest point of the lowest letter. But we've found that the project, once completed, was smaller than the customer envisioned it being. We want the customer to be completely satisfied with their order, and we feel this change in how we calculate lettering height will help the customer to order more accurately.
2. By calculating the lettering height based on a certain letter, it adds consistency. If you wanted two quotes in your kitchen, both in the same font. If the height of both quotes were not based on the same criteria, each quote would be a different height.
A WORD ABOUT QUOTE WIDTH
When you input a letter height, our Custom Design Center calculates a quote width. This width is purely an approximate. The calculation is based on a mathmatical average, not on the actual font you chose. Since each font is different, the quote width may be shorter or longer than the width the Custom Design Center gives you. If you need the quote to stay within a certain width, please explain the minimum and/or maximum width in the comments section of your order, so we can be sure to accommodate your needs.
